Clark AB 1982-1983 Men Portal
(From Craun Fansler, exact dates unknown) There were 2 full time teams in the country, the Manila Nomads and the Clark Outlaws. Occasionally the University of the Philippines fielded an all Samoan/Tongan team. Many of our matches were touring sides. We and Manila hosted a lot of Brit teams from UAE, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi. Also from Hong Kong the Valley Rugby Club and the Hong Kong Police came once each year. We hosted a French team sponsored by Air France and even an American team, the San Francisco Seniors. They were San Francisco's Old Boys team. One of the biggest matches was against the Merchant Taylors who were on their 100 year tour from the UK. (A lot of teams would go on tour to Hong Kong and the PI because it was a cheap place to tour and party. They could get two matches in Honk Kong and two in the PI.)
Some of us were invited to play with the Manila team from time to time when someone good was coming though the PI.
In 1980 we were OK but over the following two years we became the team to beat in the PI and most of the touring sides knew it.
