COL (Ret.) John L. Taylor, USMA Class of ‘62; Founder of @ArmyWP_MRugby Club, 1961

From Tony Ridnell: "I’ve heard about him for 40 years! The story of how it all started is remarkable. Really a treat to meet John (of course in finest USMA tradition, I couldn’t stop calling him Sir - and he would admonish me every time!).

For the guys that have played for the Army Rugby Club, this guy literally set the tone for the ‘mindset’ that we all know to be ‘Army Rugby’. You know, the team song that is now politically incorrect to sing? John Taylor is the man.

Who knew names like GEN William Westmoreland (Superintendent at the time) - and more importantly MRS Westmoreland, and BG Stilwell (Commandant of Cadets) were significant parts in this tale.

I’d love to find out the names of guys from New York Rugby Club who would travel to West Point to literally Coach this team back then. A great story of civilian meets military, Rugby style! "
