Illesheim
Illesheim American Rugby Football Club
Founded in 1981 with continued teams since then, the Illesheim RFC owes its clubhouse and longevity to Dave McNaughton, an American expat who has served the European military rugby community continually since. In the 2000s, with the consolidation and downsizing, the big Schweinfurt contingent, played very successfully with Illesheim until about 2006-07 They tried a few times on/off to get going again, but never really successful at it. Wuerzburg Garrison closed in early 2000’s(?) and Schweinfurt Garrison shut down about 2014. Illesheim folded in 2019, even though there was some fun at a few tourneys with the 10th CAB and 1st ACB Brigades in spring 2017 & 2018. The 12th CAB was stripped down in 2016 and they have been rotating ever since, at 9 month intervals, first two were just Blackhawk Battalions, then in spring ’17 a whole CAB/Brigade. Too many units rotating in for short times and not enough long term personnel to sustain the team. Highlighted in AFN segment: [1]
