Intramural Rugby flourished with 5 15 a side teams from various units participating in a round robin competition to earn points toward the CG trophy. Weapons Training Battalion won with a 3-1 record to win the trophy. The Pendleton team sponsored this Sommerville Cup, a rotating cup to be awarded to the winning team in honor of Cpl Dave Sommerville, an All Marine #6 who was tragically killed in an automobile accident, June 1984.
