2000 was the first Armed Forces Championships which Army won beating Air Force in the final
The President's Rugby Cup (that had rotated between the services based on which team won the Interservice Tournament each year) was retired as the AFSC took over the administration of military rugby. This was the last time the cup was presented (at the Interservice Tournament at NAS Pensacola) when Mike Malone presented it on behalf of the CSC to Mike Legg, representing the Army team. (Chairman Mark Niece was not able to attend and Mike Malone was serving as vice chair). The presentation was after the AFSC had just presented their trophy, as this was the beginning of the AFSC sponsorship. Our presentation did not go over well with them....
