From Coach Meteer:  "I mid-August 1987 USAF Col. Dick Battock somehow tracked me down at my in-laws’ house in Maryland. I and my family had just returned from 2 1/2 years in Saudi Arabia and Dick wanted me to try to organize a Navy team for the inter-service championships, which were to be held Labor Day weekend at Fort McNair in DC. I had not yet even reported to my new duty station (Naval ROTC, Maine Maritime Academy). Once I agreed Dick notified Navy players with whom he had contact and I tracked down some of the guys I had coached at USNA from ’79-’81 and we formed a team. We lived and trained at Andrews AFB that year and the next. "
